On Tuesday night, Morgan Fite hosted a house party benefiting eXile international! Around thirty people came out to support the work of eXile while enjoying an incredible evening of education, advocacy, art, music, and film.
The evening included a live outdoor concert featuring Calla Horner and B.B. Kings house guitarist, Michael Vance. Guests enjoyed a picnic-style set up as they relaxed on blankets, sang along to the live music, and munched on Chik-fil-a, Moes, and homemade cupcakes! Later in the evening, guests were able to watch one of eXile's films from their blankets, as it was projected against the backyard fence.
Following the video, Executive Director, Bethany Haley, shared about her recent experience at the Hague, where she was invited to speak and participate in the activities surrounding the International Criminal Court trial of Lubanga. Guests were some of the first to hear about the exciting connections Bethany made, including meeting and befriending writer of "A Long Way Gone," activist, and former child soldier, Ishmael Beah. Indoors, Emirembe Art, a collection of paintings by eXile's own Administrative Assistant, Morgan Fite, was on display in the basement. Her artwork is inspired by Africa, the movement for peace, and in many ways the specific work of eXile international with war-affected children and former child soldiers. Morgan's artwork provides a visual statement of the true heart of eXile international. It also shares the stories of many people and situations the general public dismisses, educates others, and cultivates action. To lay eyes on her paintings is to feel her passion, see her cause, and long to do something to make a difference. To view Morgan's artwork, check out her facebook page Emirembe Art.
In additon to receiving generous donations from guests, eXile sold merchandise, including our harambee beads, which are always available for purchase online at our website. Most importantly, however, the evening house party touched hearts, engaged souls, and cultivated compassion.
